Just something to reassure you about the future of our industry
College and Casual Cattle Conversations has sure been a whirlwind this past year. I don’t really even know where to start. So, let’s chat about one of the most impactful experiences of this past semester when it comes to all things cattle and college.
One of my minors is Nebraska Beef Industry Scholars and it’s one of the most impactful programs I have ever been a part of.
Freshman year we focused on learning about the different segments of the industry, connecting with industry leaders who got our wheels turning about the impact we can make in the industry and creating action plans for ourselves to go out and accomplish our dreams.
My sophomore and junior years were more focused on planning an industry tour to go see all segments of the industry as well as learning about current issues we face as producers and what the consumer’s perception about our industry.
Senior year is the big year. During senior year all the hard work pays off and we plan a producer seminar, learn how policy is made and attend NCBA convention. The producer seminar is what I want to chat about today.
The Beef Summit is a one day event planned by the senior class with the help of the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association. It was one day, 6 speakers, 5 topics and over 100 attendees! This event was truly inspiring in my book. It combined people of all phases of their journey in the beef industry. You had students, current ranchers and business owners and even the retired individuals who still go to every meeting and serve on boards to give back and do their part in making a difference.
We were all gathered. We were all conversing with one another. We were all taking steps to learn how we can improve as individuals and an industry.
The Beef Summit left me inspired and excited. I am excited for the people entering the beef industry. I am excited for the people already in the industry. I am excited to see how our mentors help us navigate through this journey. I am straight up excited about the future. Your future. My future. Our future together in the beef industry.
What inspired you this past year?
