Paint Won’t Hide Your Foundation

This summer has been full of projects for CCC and the ranch. We are expecting a tour to come in a week, so of course it is time to give the paint job on the old wood shop a little touch up. If you’ve ever scraped and painted an old building, I don’t need to tell you about the mess of old paint going down your shirt, getting stuck in your hair and seeming to stick around FOREVER! By the way, did you feel some paint hit your eye when you read that?

As I was brushing on the first coat of paint, the wood absorbed it right in. It was almost as if I didn’t put any on. A few coats later the old shop was looking pretty darn fresh, but you could still see some spots from previous layers of paint and the overall foundation and quality of build was still the same. This shop was built before my parents moved onto the place over 20 years ago. It’s been used to say the least. No matter how many layers we put on the shop, you can see the good and bad parts of it’s foundation.

This is true in other areas of life too. No matter how much you paint, you can’t hide the foundation. So, make sure it’s a good one. I’d challenge you to think about what the foundation of your ranch looks like by asking yourself, what values do we stand by? Are your actions taken with these values in mind? What’s the current reputation of ranch in the eyes of others? How do we want ot be remembered and what do we need to do to achieve this?

These are all great questions to ask yourself about your personal life too.

So go ahead and tell me, what value(s) make up your foundation?
