Fall’s Full Plate
It’s darn near October and I’m just not quite sure where the summer went. If someone has some answers for me, serious or sarcastic, I would most definitely like to hear them. Maybe it’s as simple as the old saying, “Time flies when you are having fun.” Or… busy. Time flies when you are busy too.
Fall is busy. I looked up synonyms for busy and two stuck out to me.
In the field
Full Plate
For farmers and ranchers, “in the field” literally means being in the field this time of year and anyone who is there or has been there understands why this is an accurate synonym. Whether it is harvesting, hauling hay or anything in between; the schedule is full when it comes to all things that require being in the field.
Full plate is also an accurate word to describe fall, let alone just the word busy. For many people it’s not just being in the field. It’s pre-conditioning calves, weaning, preparing for backgrounding, watching markets, and building new corrals before the snow comes.
So, with being in the field and having a full plate; how are you holding up?
Like most ranchers I assume you are caring for everything else before yourself. You are probably making sure you are prepared to keep your calves as healthy as possible, like Dr. Roberts discusses in the latest episode on gut health in calves. Maybe you are doing all this and chasing after your family for FFA events and various sports.
If you skimmed through all of this and are still reading, there are two points I want you to really soak in.
Thank you for all your hard work and doing all that you do. It’s not unnoticed and you are appreciated.
Be grateful for the full plate. It means you have something to live for and outcomes to look forward to seeing.
In an effort to lighten the mood during this busy season, tell me 1 thing you are grateful for. It can big or small.
Take care.
