Your Voice is Powerful. Use It!
That’s what I told 70 Nebraska FFA students in the workshop I hosted last Thursday. It was inspiring to see how they all picked up on it and had fun sharing their own voices and passions in the short 60 minutes we had together.
As I was planning this workshop, I couldn’t help but think about the value in every individual rancher’s voice. We all stand for something. It might be our lifestyle, a particular management practice, faith, beliefs or another passion. Where I see differences being made are in the areas where individuals share their stories, passions and interests with others. It all starts with one voice too and it could easily be yours that is the catalyst for a small or large change. Let that sink in a little…
We all stand for something and have the power to advocate and educate around that topic. We all have a voice that can make a difference and to me, that is powerful!
Here’s what I told the 70 FFA students who trusted me to offer them value for 60 minutes.
Pick what you are passionate about or at least interested in.
Example: Ranching
Break it down into a smaller nugget to talk about.
Example: Grazing Management, Genetics, Lifestyle, Reproduction, etc.
Look at what communication method you can use TODAY!
Example: Social Media, Blogging, Journalism, Podcasting, etc.
Look at that “nugget” and determine how you can share about that in a way that adds value to someone else’s life.
Example: Is it informational, persuasive or just good storytelling to inspire or make others feel good>
Draft it out.

As I worked through this workshop with these students. You could see their excitement grow as they started sharing what they were passionate about with others and worked through the framework above.
My wish for you is to feel the same excitement and joy as these high schoolers.
